Lost or Loose Filling

First Aid for a lost or loose filling

As a temporary measure, stick a piece of sugarless gum into the cavity (sugar-filled gum will cause pain) or use an over-the-counter dental cement. Call our office as soon as possible at 1-800-864-8441 so that we can get your long term treatment underway quickly.

Long Term care for a lost or loose filling
The procedure begins with an injection of local anesthetic. The tooth is then isolated from the rest of the mouth, and in most cases, either a high-speed dental drill or an air abrasion wand is needed to remove any new decay and prepare the tooth for the filling. The dentist will vary the tooth preparation depending on which material is used to fill the tooth.
